The Onyx Studio 7(just “Onyx” from here onwards) is a beautiful reversal of modern consumer audio trends. In an era of miniaturization, portability, and “smartening”, the Onyx is perfectly heavy, cumbersome, and “dumb”. Ask yourself: is that tiny Bluetooth speaker you bought at Big Box Store(TM) really that good? Is your smart speaker really that smart? For a lot of us, the answer to those questions is a resounding “no”. The Onyx 7 is a statement from Harmon Kardon that there’s more to audio that mere convenience. Come with me, and I’ll explain how.

Master and Dynamic is a luxury brand that primarily builds portable audio products. They’ve released a wide lineup of earphones and headphones that span a variety of price points. They are one of the few groups that builds, in my opinion, usable truly-wireless earphones, and as a result, I’m never sad to see a new release from them! The MW08 is the newest, and high-end, product in the Master and Dynamic truly-wireless collection. Lets see if it is a compelling proposition against the older MW07 siblings!

The MW08 is available for $300 on the official Master and Dynamic website, here.

Audioengine is a brand of speaker-makers based in Texas. They specialize in making high-quality speakers at competitive prices, and doing it well. I’ve reviewed some of their products before and had some good experiences with them. Today I’m reviewing the HD4, Audioengine’s mid-tier bookshelf speakers.

You can find the HD4’s for sale here, on Audioengine’s official website, for $450.

Many moons ago, back in 2016, “truly-wireless” earphones were brought to the market. As a young audio reviewer, I was eager to make a name for myself, and as such, accepted any and all offers to review these first-generation Truly Wireless Premium Audiophile High Fidelity Earphones(tm). However, the technology wasn’t even close to maturity, and consistently disappointed me. I received my first pair of truly-wireless IEMs in 2019 that were truly-buyable! Since then, the market has slowly grown more and more competitive, with big names like Apple, Samsung, Sony, Beats, and even Google trying their hand. However, these implementations were…

This is my first review of an Ultrasone product. Going into it, I didn’t know what to expect. In fact, I had so little knowledge of their product stack that I didn’t even know what relative quality, or price for that matter, the item I received actually was. I took a quick listen before doing any of that basic research and was blown away. It’s not often that I receive new products that astound me, so listen close as I share my thoughts with you on the Ultrasone 880.

You can find the Ultrasone 880 for sale here, on Amazon…

LG is a not a brand one generally associates with premium portable consumer audio. Sure, their V-series smartphones are the last great headphone-jacked devices out there, but they generally haven’t spent much time developing headphones and earphones. With the release of the Tone, that changes. They released three individual models total, the Tone’s arrival signals LG’s entrance into the market as a serious contender.

You can find the Tone for sale here, on LG’s official website, for $99-$149.

Master & Dynamic are no strangers to the luxury-audio market. They occupy a high throne in the consumer space, both in terms of price and quality. I have reviewed several different M&D products at this point and have not been disappointed by a single one. Whether its their attention to detail, fine craftsmanship, or well-tuned sound signatures, I always find something to rant and rave about in my reviews. The MW07 Plus and Go are no exception to this trend — each filling a specific role in M&D’s ever-growing product lineup.

Rose is a China-based audiophile brand. They pride themselves on their excellent value-based audiophile IEMs and have developed several successful lines. Rose are the makers of one of my all-time favorite IEMs, the Cappuccino Mk. II as well. Today we are taking a look at the Rose Mini 3, the successor to the popular Mini 2. Spoiler alert: its pretty damn good.

You can find the Mini3 for sale here, on Penon Audio, for $149.

Ever miss your childhood lava-lamps? Well miss them no more, as modern technology has found you a replacement. The JBL Pulse is a portable Bluetooth speaker that boasts a 360-degree LED display stretching across its entire face. This effect may seem gimmicky, but JBL has, over four iterations, actually made it quite a nice addition to the device. And pretty lights are nice and all, but does the rest of the Pulse 4 hold up to its price tag?

You can buy the Pulse 4 here, on JBL’s site, for $250.

You can find the MW65 here, for $499.
